My Friend Carol in "Dancemania"

I drew this three page panel cartoon about a decade ago. It was my first attempt at drawing with pen and ink. It's pretty simplistic because I didn't know the proper way to use pen and ink then and I don't know the proper way to use pen and ink now. Ballpoint is fine with me.

Boy I Suck at Maintaining a Blog

The problem with blogs is that they require daily input if they are ever going to be worth a damn. Why should anyone check on a blog daily if it lies motionless for weeks or months at a time? I'm going to try harder, which shouldn't be very hard to do.

Man it's Wednesday already.

How did that happen? I slaved for a couple of hours on a car repair job that I knew was doomed to fail but I did all the work anyway. it worked great until I had to make an adjustment and then it went to shit. Shit! Tomorrow or the next day I will have the part to fix it right.
Whatever I post as a cartoon today has nothing to do with anything and everything to do with nothing. O.k.

True Story

The names were changed to protect the innocent as well as the not innocent. I had fun doing this one and drew the guy with a pompadour during a Thursday morning meeting at work.

Manor Road Coffeehouse

I used to work across the street from a little scuzzy building that originally housed a black hairstylist on one side and a TV repair business on the other. When they got priced out of the dilapidated shanty a series of failed businesses took turns at investing money in the place so that eventually someone came along and took it to the next level and now it is a prosperous Mexican Restaurant. The first suckers opened a very cool, way too alternative Coffeehouse and Tobacco store called Manor Road Coffeehouse. Their biggest drawback was under funding and it came down to outright begging from their customers before they finally went under after a year or so. After that it was Gabby and Mo's, still underfunded they were more professional and lasted a couple of years. Then it was The Sacred Cup with the same fatal flaw but they hung on for longer than anyone else and actually had good food and great coffee. Now it's a Mexican Restaurant.
Anyway, enough of the history lesson. When it was the Manor Road Coffeehouse it drew a lot of pierced and home tattooed slackers, intellectuals if you like, and few paying customers due to the fact that they ran it like a hangout for their penniless friends, as a hobby. I was kind of pissed when I drew this one. Can you tell?

Big Winner

This is another cartoon I never bothered to perfect. The gag line should read more like: How old are you kid? I've been watching you lose all week, some me some ID now!
The one with the birds was a developmental thought as well. Haha.
Strange looking birds, if I do say so myself.

RIP me

I know I made this drawing on June 10th, 1997 while sitting in the State Cemetery instead of going on into work. I hated my job for my entire working career but now I absolutely love my retirement and it will pay me, or my wife, for the rest of our combined lives. I love the State Teachers Retirement System of Texas. They are excellent. Man, no traffic jams and only three quarters of a tank of gas burned in five weeks. I almost feel green.
